By: Ashleigh Darrach
WINDSOR, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team is now 7-0 to begin the OCAA regular season after taking a 3-0 victory against St. Clair on November 22, 2015. After the straight set sweep, the Hawks have now won 16 consecutive sets, their longest streak since winning 15 straight during the 2013-14 OCAA season.
In the first set, the Hawks came out the gates with a 12 point serving run by second-year setter Brittany Vanderlaan. The Stoney Creek native came into the match ranked 24th in the league for service aces.
Momentum began to shift when the Saints regained possession of the ball. St. Clair caught up and the score was 19-11 when the Hawks finally pulled away. The final score of the first set was 25-17 for Humber.
Humber, now averaging at just over 9 kills per set in their regular season was struggling to put the ball away as quickly as normal, as St. Clair was digging up everything.
The Hawks will wrap up their first semester of play in a double-header this weekend when they host Cambrian and Boreal at home.
