HAWKS SWEEP CONESTOGA TO REMAIN UNBEATEN
KITCHENER, ON: Playing their second match in less than a week, the Humber Hawks women's volleyball team went on the road Wednesday evening to face the Conestoga Condors. In front of a rowdy and hostile crowd, the Hawks swept their way to another 3-0 victory, their second of the season.
Despite having three key players injured to start their season, the Hawks bench has played an integral role in the teams early season success. One of the student-athletes who stepped up to play a major role in this match was Ottawa native Adara Dillabaugh.
The first set was very up-and-down, as the Hawks allowed the Condors to go on a seven point serving run. Humber was struggling to execute early on but managed to turn things around by taking the first set 25-18.
The second set was better from a serve receive standpoint, however the Hawks lacked communication and were not serving as tough as normal. Unable to keep momentum and string together points, Conestoga kept the second set tight. The Hawks talent and experienced prevailed in the end, taking the second set 25-22.
Newman, a fourth-year Kitchener native finished with a game-high 15 points, her largest tally of the season. Setter Brittany Vanderlaan, who is currently third in the OCAA with 7.27 assists-per-set, finished with a game-high 21 assists.
