By Ashleigh Darrach

HAMILTON, ON: The Humber Hawks scored a 3-0 victory against the Mohawk Mountaineers on November 14, 2015.

Thalia Hanniman was the top scorer of the match with a total of 11 kills for the game. She has been a consistent top scorer throughout the regular season so far.

"We transitioned on their free balls really well," said Hanniman. "We made a few effort mistakes, but overall we attacked the ball well."

The Hawks were down 7-2 at the beginning of the first set as Mohawk's setter went on a serving run. Humber was struggling to transition off the serve receive and made multiple errors.

After communication proved to be a solution, the Hawks started to pass well and were able to get out of their rut.

A good serving run by Alley Newman allowed the Hawks to get back on top, and gain momentum.

The final score of the first set was 25-17 for Humber.

During the second set the Hawks were flowing much more smoothly.

Elizabeth Deakin-Poot, middle for the Hawks, had two kills down the line that created exciting energy, and momentum was completely in favour of the Hawks.

During play, Mohawk's starting libero who was a key player for the team, suffered a major injury causing a delay in game.

Humber went back and served and remained focused throughout the rest of the set.

They managed to stay on top for the entire set, and the final score was 25-12.

During the third set, the Hawks were able to run the middle more successfully on their offense.

Alley Newman, middle for the Hawks had four kills during the third set.

"We were able to force middle sets more than we have been," said Newman.  "Execution was key in that set."

Humber was very back and forth for the majority of the third set, until the end. Brooke Kinnaird, right side for the Hawks went on a serving run which allowed the Hawks to take off. Kinnaird had a total of 9 serves during this set.

Humber won the third set 25-21.
