HAWKS BATTLE BUT UNABLE TO SCORE A MEDAL
ANCASTER, ON: A six game shutout streak is what helped the Humber Hawks women's soccer team into the indoor soccer provincial semi finals but that streak came to an end on Saturday.
Humber took on the Seneca Sting in the semi finals Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The ladies fought hard for 40 minutes forcing overtime but dropped the game in Golden Goal by a score of 1-0. The Sting would then go on to win gold against St. Clair.
With the loss the Hawks had to play in the bronze medal game at 12:30 against the Sheridan Bruins, a team Humber has seen multiple times in outdoor and the winter season.
In the bronze medal game the ladies continued to struggle with goal scoring and Sheridan capitalized on their chances in the first half. Humber was able to muster up a few chances but failed to capitalize. The final would be 2-0 in favour of the Bruins.
Tight defence has been the key to the Hawks success this indoor season. It was the reason why the Hawks were able to advance to Saturdays medal round at the provincial championships.
The Hawks once again played shorthanded on this day but finish the season as the No.4 team in women's indoor soccer.
As for the Hawks women's team their season is now over. There were no medals for the team this season but the ladies are looking forward to turning that around and starting fresh next season.
