UNDEFEATED HAWKS WIN REGION & MOVE ON TO OCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

By Eugenio Garro

ANCASTER, ON: The Humber Hawks Women's Indoor soccer team used a big day from Corinna Vanderschaaf to qualify for the Provincial Championships.

Humber has struggled to get back to their winning ways after many years of dominating the indoor season. After losing many players from their outdoor team prior to the indoor season this year it has made things very difficult for the team.

The women travelled to Redeemer College where the regional qualifiers were held. The Hawks simply needed to finish in the top two in their group in order to qualify for the Provincial Championships in a few weeks.

Humber's group included the Redeemer Royals, Sheridan Bruins, and St. Lawrence Sharks.

The Hawks fate came down to their final game against St. Lawrence where they needed to score a bunch of goals.

In the end the Hawks were able to come through and in the end were able to qualify for provincials in a few weeks.

Here are the results:

Humber 1-1 Redeemer

Humber 1-1 Sheridan

Humber 3-0 St. Lawrence

Humber's leading scorer on the day was forward Corinna Vanderschaaf who was able to find the back for three goals in three games.

The Hawks finished first in their group and now advance to the OCAA Provincial Championships which take place March 18.
