NEW LOOK AND UNDERMANNED HAWKS NAB SILVER IN OPENING EVENT
PICKERING, ON: The Humber Hawks women's soccer team travelled to Pickering on Saturday to take place in the Centennial College annual soccer tournament.
This was the first time the women's team took the field competitively since October in what is a tune up tournament, which will help prepare the team for the provincial championships next month.
It was a six-team tournament which featured two divisions of three teams. Of the three games the women played in the round robin, they finished with an overall record of 2-1-0 (W-L-T).
The results of the games were:
Humber 1-2 University of Toronto Mississauga
Humber 4-0 Canadore
Humber 2-1 Redeemer
The women were then set to take on Centennial College in the semi-finals. The women fought hard and were able to come out victorious by a score of 2-1. After a slow start to the day the women found a way to string together some victories and now they were in the finals against their rivals the Sheridan Bruins.
The finals didn't go as planned for the Hawks. With many players fatigued from the days competition and others playing through injury the women gave it all they had but lost by a final score of 5-2.
The shorthanded Hawks women fought hard all day and should be happy with the result regardless of losing in the final. They will now turn their sights on getting healthy and prepared for their next tournament in two weeks at Redeemer College along with trying to get healthy and set for the provincial championships in March.
