Blackmore headlines conference awards for No. 3 Men's Volleyball
ETOBICOKE – No. 3 Humber men's volleyball once again garnered numerous league accolades when the conference announced its yearly awards, which are determined by a poll of the OCAA coaches.
Named the OCAA Player of the Year, Teyven Blackmore, an outside hitter, was the West Division Scoring Champion, averaging 4.3 points-per-set on 187 kills, 32 service aces and six blocks in 16 matches. Blackmore's 0.62 service-aces-per set average led all OCAA players. While a beast offensively, Blackmore gets into the backcourt and puts on a defensive clinic digging and passing for the West Division champion Hawks. Also named a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, Blackmore headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.
Blackmore becomes the fourth player in team history to be named the player of the year and the ninth to lead the division in scoring.
Fifth-year setter Josh Nicholson was named the division player of the year after averaging 7.98 assists, while becoming the 12th CCAA All-Canadian in team history. Nicholson and Blackmore join legends Jake Gomes and Josh Fadare as the only Humber duo to garner All-Canadian selections in the same season.
Joining Nicholson and Blackmore as first-team All-OCAA selections was Nazyr Francis.
No. 3 Humber will now set its sights on winning its fifth straight provincial title, beginning with Niagara in the quarter-final round on Feb. 15 at 3 pm. The match will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
