CAMROSE, ALBERTA: The Humber Hawks women's curling team, although extremely close in every game played at the 2017 CCAA Nationals, were unable to get a key shot or break as they finished the event with a 2-5 round robin record.

The first match on the final day of round robin play once again proved what had taken place all weekend. The Hawks were close, and had a chance to tie and force extra ends, but dropped a 5-2 decision to the Fanshawe Falcons. The Achilles heel throughout the event came back to haunt Humber in this match as well, as the visitors were able to steal points and put the pressure on the Hawks to respond with multiple point ends.

The final match of the tournament saw the Hawks play brilliantly, perhaps one of their best matches of the year. Their opponent was the playoff bound NAIT Ooks, but it was Humber that flew out of the nest. On their way to an 11-4 win that saw teams shake after seven ends, the Hawks scored an amazing 5 points in a single end early to put the Ooks behind the ball quickly. Humber then went on to steal twice and finally put the game away with a point in the seventh.

Yes, perhaps a win in one of those tight games may have propelled Humber into a tie-breaking position, but the heart they displayed throughout was something to be proud off.

A special tip of the hat to two-time CCAA silver medalist Heidi Beck, as her career has come to an end as a Humber Hawk. Heidi, your smile, team-first mentality and competitive spirit is something we will always remember.
