CAMROSE, ALBERTA: The Humber Hawks women's curling team played three grueling games on Thursday, in what was the only day requiring three draws. After a 0-2 first day, the 1-2 result today has all but eliminated the Hawks from playoff play this coming Saturday.

In the first match of the day, the Hawks held a lead after five and seemed like they would be able to play it out for their first win of the championships. But, as what happened on the opening day, Humber surrendered two steals and found themselves behind. Give the Hawks credit as they got the game back to even and had two stones in the house as Red Deer prepared for their final shot. A perfect draw by the Queens skip nestled its way into the middle of the house, securing the victory.

The Hawks grabbed their first win of the national event, an 8-7 nail-biter against the host Augustana Vikings. As they have done in every match, Humber led at the five-end break. But, unlike how they failed to capitalize on these leads, the Hawks stole one early after five and held a three point lead. After the Vikings scored two in the ninth to tie, the second coming way of a measurement. Humber forced the hosts to hit and stick to force the Humber skip to draw for the win, but the Vikings stone was unable to hold its spot. Humber did not have to play its last stone.

The third and final game was just another game that saw nothing go the Hawks way. Despite a big three to grab a lead after six ends, Humber gave up a steal of one and then a deuce to put them behind. They blanked the ninth, with hopes of scoring two in the final end, but the winning squad from Concordia closed up any gaps on the ice. The final score was 10-7, Thunder.

Humber will now look to finish strong, and possible spoiler on Friday in their last two games.
