A WINNING TRADITION: HUMBER ATHLETICS REACH NEW MILESTONE

ETOBICOKE, ON: Over the weekend, the Humber Hawks department of athletics became the first collegiate institution to surpass the 500 OCAA medal mark.  After medaling five times yesterday, the Hawks now have ten medals on the season and currently sit at 503 all-time.

After formally joining the OCAA in 1968, Humber began with only four varsity programs and endured the growing pains of a young athletic program.  Since then, the department has blossomed into one of the most dominant, not only in Ontario but in the country.  Humber has grown from four to nineteen teams, competing in each and every sport the OCAA has to offer.

The Hawks wasted no time acquiring their first OCAA championship, as women's curling won a gold medal during the 1968-69 inaugural season.

Over the last decade, Humber athletics has put together an unprecedented run.  The department has won 205 OCAA medals during that span, 111 of which were gold.

In 2015, the Hawks surpassed Seneca College for the most medals in the OCAA, which could possibly be the most dominant association in the country.  Of the 26 schools that currently compete in an OCAA sport, only four have at least 400 all-time medals.

The following is a look at the current Humber programs and the proud winning tradition they continue to this day.
