HAWKS RACING FOR GOLD IN SAULT STE. MARIE THIS SATURDAY

SAULT STE. MARIE: The Humber Hawks women's and men's cross country teams will vie for gold and direct entry into the CCAA Nationals this coming weekend at the 2015 OCAA Provincial Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships being held at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault Ste. Marie.

The event will kick-off with a course walk through on Thursday and Friday, followed by the championship races on Saturday. The women's 5K race will take place at noon, with the men's 8K sprint set for a 1:00 pm start. The Annual Awards Banquet will take place after the race at 5:30 pm.

Humber's women's enter the contest as winners of three of the last four provincial championships, including the 2014 title. The Hawks enter the race after a very strong Fall season that saw them win team titles at the Fanshawe, St. Lawrence and Seneca invitationals. They are led by 2014 OCAA Individual bronze medalist Coby Phillips, but the entire group has shuffled in and out of the top spot of Hawk runners at all Fall races.

The men, defending CCAA National Champions, continue to use the recipe that has brought them success over the past number of years. Although they have had few individual podium finishes, they continue to place five to six runners in the top twenty of every race. This pack running strategy ensures that there is support by, and for every Hawk runner. Heading into the provincials, they took top spot at the Seneca Invitational two weeks ago.
