Former Glasgow Rangers defender Luca Gasparotto signs with Humber

ETOBICOKE – Humber soccer head coach Michael Aquino announced the signing of former Canadian youth international defender Luca Gasparotto for the upcoming 2021 OCAA season.

The North York native joins the Hawks after more than 100 caps in Scotland with the Glasgow Rangers, Falkirk, and Greenock Morton.

"Whenever you get a player of Luca's calibre, you're excited for the potential of what he can bring to our program," said Coach Aquino. "He has some exceptional club experience and he'll be a leader on and off the pitch for us."

Gasparotto represented Canada at the under-17, under-20 and under-23 levels and was called up to the senior squad during the World Cup qualifier against Belize in 2015.

A youth product of Ajax SC, he left Canada for Rangers at the age of 16 and made his first appearance for the Scottish giants in 2013. At the age of 17, he was playing at Ibrox Stadium in front of 58,000 fans. He was later loaned to Stirling Albion, Airdrieonians and Greenock before he joining Scottish Championship side Falkirk in 2016.

He returned to Canada in 2019 and signed with York9 FC, playing two seasons with the Nine Stripes. He became known as the league's ironman, playing every single minute in York9 history, starting with 34 appearances in the club's inaugural season.

The 2021 OCAA men's soccer season begins Sept. 17 with the Hawks on the road against George Brown. Humber's first home game of the season is Sept. 22 against Seneca and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
