Humber star Marcos Nunes returns for the 2021 season
ETOBICOKE – Three-time CCAA national champion Marcos Nunes is returning to the Humber men's soccer team for the 2021 season. Arguably one of the top scoring threats in the country, Nunes is known for dominating when the lights are brightest and on the biggest stage. He's the program's all-time leader in postseason goals, recording 20 tallies in 18 career playoff matches.
Nunes originally joined the Hawks in 2012, playing two seasons wearing the navy and gold, leading the team to back-to-back national and provincial titles. In 2013, he was named the CCAA championship most valuable player, recording three goals in three matches in New Brunswick.
He then spent time with NK Travnik in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, before signing a USL contract with Toronto FC II in March 2015.
The Brampton, Ont., native returned to the Hawks in 2016, helping the program reach heights never seen before. Nunes became the program's first conference scoring champion in a decade, recording ten tallies in nine matches. He was named the OCAA player of the year, a CCAA All-Canadian, and became just the third player in program history to be named the national player of the year. He added four more goals at provincials, helping the Hawks claim their 11th OCAA title. In Alberta, Nunes helped the Hawks capture the program's fourth national title in five years, and he was named the championship's most valuable player. Humber finished the year with a 16-0-0 record, becoming the first and only OCAA team to finish the year with a perfect record.
Nunes returned to Humber College in 2020 to complete his apprenticeship for Electrician-Construction and Maintenance, finishing with honours for the fall semester. He enters his final season of eligibility tied for third all-time in program history with 34 goals. He sits nine goals behind Humber legend and Hall of Famer Jesse Calabro. Nunes' 20 postseason tallies are 12 more than any other player in Humber soccer history.
Nunes and the Hawks return to OCAA action on Sept. 17 with the Hawks on the road against George Brown. Humber's first home game of the season is Sept. 22 against Seneca and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
