HAWKS WIN IN FRONT OF TOUGH REDEEMER CROWD
ANCASTER, Ont – The Humber men's basketball team (6-2, 3rd West) extended their win streak to five games with a 77-71 win on the road against the Redeemer Royals (2-4, 7th West). Ancil Martin (Scarborough) finished with a season-high 24 points and has now recorded consecutive games with 20-plus points.
Humber's all-time leading rebounder Tyrone Dickson (Scarborough) tied his career-high with 19 rebounds and added 13 points for his fifth double-double of the season. Dickson also had 19 rebounds in a game against Sault College during the 2014-15 OCAA season.
A three-pointer from C.J. Bennett (Brampton) – who finished with 18 points – opened the scoring in the game. Rayvon Higden, the association's leading scorer, helped Redeemer take a 17-15 lead as the opening quarter expired.
Both teams exchanged baskets in the second quarter and a free throw from Tyrone Dickson helped Humber retake the lead. A floater at the buzzer from C.J. Bennett gave the Hawks a four point lead at half.
As the game remained close, Redeemer regained the lead after Nicholas Green hit a contested jump shot; however that lead was short-lived as DeQuon Cascart (North York) came off the bench to hit another three for Humber.
A 15-2 run in the fourth allowed the Hawks to extend their lead to 12 and from there Humber went on to win 77-71.
Humber nailed a season-high nine three-pointers in the game, the most makes by a team during the Patrick Au era.
The Hawks will now close out the first half of the season Wednesday night when Mohawk comes to the Humber Athletic Centre. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 8pm and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
