LONDON – Humber softball captured the OCAA bronze medal Saturday afternoon, falling to the Durham Lords by a score of 4-0. The bronze medal game was a defensive duel until the sixth inning when the Lords opened the floodgates and took a commanding lead. The Humber Hawks softball team has won bronze in back-to-back seasons and the second bronze medal in program history.

Game Recap

The Hawks knew they would be in for a challenge against the Durham Lords in the 2022 bronze medal game. The winner of the game would advance to play for gold in a clash with the number one-ranked St. Clair Saints. The Hawks tied Durham in the season standings but won the season series against the Lords giving Humber home-field advantage in the playoffs; however, the Hawks fell to the Lords in yesterday's playoff matchup making today's battle that much more intriguing for fans.

The game's first five innings was a defensive clinic containing lights-out pitching from Humber's Meagan Muir and Durham's Emily Glendinning, along with strong defensive plays from both sides. Durham had three hits through five, while Glendinning was near-perfect, only allowing a hit.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Durham Lords scored three baserunners on four hits. Three straight singles loaded the bases for the Lords, and an RBI groundout marked the game's first scoring play to put the Lords up one run. Another single would score two more runs for Durham. The following inning saw the Lord score an insurance run to put them ahead by four runs.

The Hawks pushed to keep their season alive in the seventh, with Michaela Tuck hitting a lead-off double off the left field wall. She advanced to third; however, Durham's Glendinning stood on her head and ousted the reminder of Humber's side to award her a complete-game win and shutout. Tuck and Glendinning were named players of the game for their respective teams.

Humber ace Meagan Muir was named to the championship all-tournament team after throwing 20.1 innings in two days.
