Humber Hall of Fame Inductees: Hough, Lyons, Marra, and Murphy

Humber Varsity Hall of Fame: Baseball Edition

ETOBICOKE – The Department of Humber Athletics is excited to announce the selection of four exceptional alumni for induction into the Humber Varsity Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022.

This special edition class comprises Steven Hough, Brendan Lyons, Justin Marra, and Keegan Murphy – the first-ever Humber baseball players inducted into the Hall of Fame.

This group helped Humber baseball reach new heights under their guidance and leadership, culminating in the program's first national and provincial titles.

"We would like to congratulate these inductees and their families," said Humber College Director of Athletics Ray Chateau. "This is a tremendous class of Hall of Famers who has made an undeniable impact on Humber baseball, both on and off the diamond. We look forward to celebrating this outstanding class and recognizing their academic and athletic achievements."

Officially founded in 2002, the Humber Varsity Hall of Fame pays tribute to those superior Hawk athletes, coaches and administrators who have made major contributions to the honour and fame of Humber Athletics and have continued to demonstrate the positive values learned through competing in intercollegiate sports. Induction into the Hall of Fame represents one of the highest athletic honours the department can bestow.

The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Connorvale Park before the first pitch of the Humber baseball doubleheader with Sault College at 1 p.m.

Dominating his opponents in the postseason, Steven earned the nickname 'Big Game Hough' for his brilliant performances when the spotlight was shining brightest. He finished his career with six wins in six OCAA playoff starts, including a sparkling 0.66 earned run average with 27 strikeouts and two complete-game shutouts in 32 innings of work.

At the 2019 OCAA Championship tournament, Hough put the final touches on his Humber baseball resume. He threw a complete-game shutout against Durham to earn a spot in the finals for the second straight year. Forced into a winner-take-all championship, Hough was once again on the mound, picking up his second win over the Lords in less than 24 hours, earning Championship MVP honours.

The best two-way player in program history, Brendan Lyons dominated for the Hawks on the mound and at the plate. A true leader on the diamond, he played the game with passion and emotion – most noticeably against conference rivals, the St. Clair Saints.

Recovering from Tommy John surgery, Lyons spent his first two seasons in the navy and gold as an infielder before returning to the mound in 2017. The Bolton native finished that season with a sparkling 1.07 ERA in 19.1 innings of work.

In his final season, Lyons capped his four-year career by helping his squad capture its first NCBC and OCAA titles in 2018. He was named the most valuable player of both tournaments, leading the Hawks on the mound and at the dish.

He concluded his career as the first baseball player to be named Humber's Male Athlete of the Year and was later selected as Humber Baseball's Player of the Decade.

2x OCAA League All-Star ('17, '18)

Record: 43-11 (.796)

It's not every day one player can join a team and completely change the culture of a program, but that's exactly what Justin Marra did when he signed with Humber baseball in 2017. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2011, Marra brought the experience of over 160 minor league games with him to the Hawks.

In just his first season, he helped Humber reach the finals for the first time in program history, leading the team in home runs and walks.

Defensively he was just as impressive, essentially shutting down the opposing team's run game. As a game manager, he used his experience to help the Humber pitching staff become the best in the province, concluding the 2018 season with an OCAA-best 1.35 earned run average as a team. Marra was named to the NCBC and OCAA all-tournament teams that season, helping the Hawks capture the first national title in program history.

Keegan Murphy (INF | 2014-19)
Medals

2017 OCAA Championship All-Tournament Team
2x OCAA League All-Star ('17, '18)
2017 Humber Baseball Most Valuable Player

Record: 83-40 (.675)

The face of Humber baseball for a half-decade, Keegan Murphy bled navy and gold. Humber baseball's all-time leader in games played with 90, he retired first all-time in hits, doubles, and RBIs.

A consummate professional, Murphy carried himself with dignity and pride on and off the diamond and was the perfect ambassador for the 'H'.

2017 was Murphy's best season statistically when he finished with a .411/.469/1.003 slash line, leading the team with 24 RBIs and setting a new program record with 30 hits in 20 regular season games.  His incredible season saw the Hawks earn an OCAA silver medal for the first time, and he was later named the team MVP.

Determined to lead Humber to the top of the podium, Murphy returned for his senior season leading Humber to its first triple crown: OCAA division title, OCAA gold medal, and NCBC gold medal. Playing in his final game at home in the national finals, Murphy recorded two RBIs to help the Hawks defeat St. Clair, earning NCBC All-Tournament honours.
