Four Humber players holding their medals

Another successful provincial tournament for No. 1 Badminton

AURORA – The 2023 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Badminton Championships concluded Saturday at the KC Badminton Club in Aurora. The Humber Hawks left the tournament with three titles and a bronze medal.

The duo of Nishant Batra and Sirapob Kongubon went the distance for the Hawks in men's doubles, finishing the tournament with a 7-0 record and only dropping one set. It was Humber's first men's doubles title since 2019.

The women's doubles discipline has been a strength for Humber badminton for over a decade, and this season was no different. Victoria Duong and Airi Moromisato cruised through the tournament undefeated without dropping a set and captured the program's sixth consecutive title in the women's doubles discipline. For Victoria Duong, it was her third provincial for the Hawks.

Rookie Zeel Rohit also finished on the podium for the Hawks, capturing the bronze medal. Rohit's bronze medal finish also helped the Hawks finish in a three-way tie for the women's team overall title.

What's Next?

No. 1 Humber badminton will now set its sights on the national tournament, trying to defend its titles from last season. The 2023 national championship will take place in Truro, Nova Scotia, beginning March 9.
