VAUGHAN - No. 14 Humber women's soccer got back in the win column Wednesday afternoon, dominating the George Brown Huskies (1-2, 3rd Central) at the Ontario Soccer Centre, 7-0. Three Humber players combined to score all seven tallies for the Hawks, with rookie Kaitlynn Russell leading the way with three of her own.
The Hawks put the pressure on early and in the sixth minute, Breanna Senfner intercepted a pass and knocked the ball through a defender's legs to Kaitlynn Russell, whose shot from just outside the 18-yard box found the back of the net for her first career OCAA goal. Less than five minutes later, a brilliant through ball from Elisa Oliviera found a streaking Russell who cut past a defender to bury her second tally of the match.
In the 25th minute, Senfner finds a streaking Rebecca Spratt on the wing whose shot is saved by the Huskies keeper, but the rebound finds the boot of Russell, who bangs home her third goal of the match.
After an own goal by the Huskies in the second half extends Humber's lead to four, Catarina Medeiros intercepted a Huskies clearing and her shot went through the keeper's legs for the fifth goal of her career.
With less than 15 minutes remaining, Senfner continued to press the Huskies defence, stealing a pass and blasting a shot from outside the box to record her second goal of the season. A couple minutes later, Cara Serapiglia found Senfner at the top of the box and the Kitchener native's big left foot banged home her second goal of the match, this time to the far left top corner, securing the 7-0 victory for the Hawks.
