DEFENDING CHAMPS LOOK TO HOLD ONTO BANNER IN 2016

BREAKING NEWS! Hawks advance to medal round on Saturday

The 2014-15 indoor champion Humber Hawks used an opening victory to cruise into the semi finals of the provincial championships on Friday.

Humber is looking to be the second soccer team in school history to sweep the podium winning the outdoor provincial championships, the outdoor national championship and now gunning for the indoor provincial championships.

After narrowly getting into the provincial championships the Hawks barely escaped day one of the tournament getting into the semi finals.

The team took on the Conestoga Condors in the team's first game of the day. After the Hawks struggled to get any offence going in the first half, the teams second half is what pushed them past the Condors by a score of 3-0.

The men have struggled as of late due to key injuries forcing players to miss this tournament or play limited minutes.

In the second game of the day the Hawks went up against the St. Clair Saints, a team who defeated the Hawks 3-0 at the regional qualifiers. It was a tense matchup and for both sides walking away with points was crucial.

The game ended in a scoreless draw as either team failed to put the ball in the back of the net.

In the final game of the day it was a do or die moment for the Hawks. The men's side needed just a tie to move onto the semi finals. The teams line-up took a hit after many players had to leave because of injury or personal matters making it harder for Humber.

The men took on the Fanshawe Falcons in a rematch of the OCAA outdoor provincial semi finals which Humber won and once again gave those on hand a good game to watch.

The game ended nil-nil meaning Humber would move on. The Hawks sat back for most of the game due to the short bench and because of how risky it would've been to attack throughout the game.

The Hawks finished second in their group behind the Saints and move onto tomorrows medal rounds against their rivals the Sheridan Bruins with kick-off at 11:15 a.m.

ANCASTER, ON: The Humber Hawks men's indoor soccer team, the winningest team in OCAA indoor soccer history with 14 titles in 19 years, will look to defend its 2015 title on March 18 & 19/16. In fact, if you subtract the one season when the team was withdrawn, the team has only missed medaling twice over this span.

Humber, also the 2015 CCAA National Championship outdoor soccer team, had a very rough start at the 2016 OCAA Regional championships. Slow out of the block, they lost the opener 3-0 to eventual Regional champ St. Clair, before winning the next two to come out as the second team from the pool.

Due to the second place finish, they will be in a championship pool that contains two regional champs and another second place squad. Teams will play a round robin within their division and then the top two teams from each pool will play in semi-finals, then medal games.
