HAWKS DROP TIGHT SEMI FINAL IN OPENING EVENT

PICKERING, ON: The Humber Hawks men's soccer team took part in the Centennial College annual indoor soccer tournament in Pickering on Saturday.

This tournament was just a tune up for the provincial championships, which take place in March. The Hawks are reining indoor champions as they look to win back-to-back titles and a clean sweep of the podium this season.

The tournament was the first time the men took the field competitively since winning the Canadian National Championship in November.

Humber fielded a team which featured several members of the championship team, but were however still shorthanded missing many other key players.

The men's side featured eight teams split into two divisions. In the three round robin games the Hawks played they finished with an overall record of 3-0-0 which was enough to finish in first place in their division heading into the playoff round.

The score lines were:

Humber 7-1 Centennial

Humber 3-2 University of Guelph

Humber 2-1 UTM

Humber then advanced into the semi-finals where they were set to take on their rivals the Sheridan Bruins. In a close match Humber fought hard but fell just short losing 2-1 and being eliminated from the tournament.

All in all it was a great way to start off the indoor season. Humber will now turn their sights on their second tournament which takes place in two weeks at Redeemer College in Hamilton, this time hoping they return home as champions.
