Softball rolls Conestoga in doubleheader sweep

ETOBICOKE – Humber softball (15-3, 3rd OCAA) picked up two more wins in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon, sweeping the Conestoga Condors (3-13, 9th OCAA) at Connorvale Park. Rookie Resse Velocci drove in four runs, while Humber's pitching staff only allowed three hits over 12 innings of work.

Game One: Humber 9, Conestoga 0

Humber's offence was firing on cylinders, plating six runs through the first five innings of the game.

To end the top of the fifth inning, rookie Shade Hansen picked up her 11th strikeout of the game, hitting the century mark on the season. Hansen went the distance once again, throwing seven shutout innings while only allowing two hits.

After Shea Hilpert grounded out to score Hannah Koziolek in the sixth inning, Reece Velocci hit a two-run single down the left field line, finishing with a game-high three RBIs.

Game Two: Humber 10, Conestoga 0 – 5 innings

Sloppy defence by the Condors helped the Hawks plate three runs in the first inning. A throwing error from Morgan Stock brought in two runs, and then Michaela Tuck singled to give Humber a three-run lead.

Senior Alexis Ferreira, leading the program in hitting, recorded her 12th extra-base hit of the season in the second inning, hitting a line drive double to the right-centre gap to score Angelina Bomberry. A few batters later, Hannah Koziolek unloaded on an outside fastball, hitting a two-run home run over the wall in right field.

Megan Muir recorded her sixth win of the season, throwing all five innings while only allowing one hit and striking out seven.
