HAWKS BLOW OUT LAST PLACE VIPERS IN THREE STRAIGHT SETS

E.Garro

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team (11-0, 1st West) defeated the Boreal Vipers (0-12, 10th West) in straight sets (25-5, 25-7, 25-3) on Saturday night at Humber North Campus.

The Hawks made quick work of the Vipers for the second time this season after defeating them in straight sets in the fall.

Winners of just two sets this season, the Vipers are struggling to find any success. This gave the Hawks a chance to play their bench players, and allow many of their usual starters to play in other positions.

It was two first-year athletes who stole the show Saturday night. Julia Watson (Burlington) and Emma Heeney (Ingersoll, ON) took advantage of the playing time.

Watson finished the game with a career-high 11-points (eight kills, one ace, two blocks) and was named player of the game.

Heeney made her biggest impact serving Saturday night. In the first set she served for 17 straight points and reached the double-digit mark in the second set. She finished the match with a game-high 14 points (six kills, eight aces), which is also a new career-high.

The Hawks will now take on the Cambrian Golden Shield (3-8, 8th West) Sunday at Humber. Game start is 1:00 p.m.
