BOASIAKO HEADLINES BIG NIGHT FOR MEN'S SOCCER PROGRAM

Humber wins player of the year, defensive player of the year, top defensive team, central division coach of the year, and nine all-star honourees at the 2017 OCAA Men's Soccer Awards Banquet.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont -- Two-time defending OCAA champion Humber garnered numerous accolades on Wednesday evening when the league announced its yearly awards as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

Defender Kingsley Boasiako was the headliner on the evening after he was named a CCAA All-Canadian, OCAA Player of the Year, OCAA Defensive Player of the Year, and OCAA All-Star. He is Humber's sixth-ever OCAA Player of the Year, joining Luigi Della Rovere (1997), Kwame Osei (2005), Andrew DaSilva (2009), Marcelo Cappozolo (2011), and Marcos Nunes (2016).

The captain of the top-ranked program in the country, Boasiako anchored Humber's backline all season long.  Now a five-time OCAA Defensive Player of the Year recipient, he has led a defensive unit that has recorded a league-best seven shutouts, while holding opponents to a league-low 3.40 shots on goal-per-game. In Boasiako's five years at Humber, the Hawks own a 0.50 goals against average.

Michael Aquino was named the Central Division Coach of the Year, the third consecutive year he has received the honour.  Aquino led the program to its third straight season without a loss and currently features an unbeaten streak of 42 games against CCAA competition. Since becoming the head coach, the Hawks have gone 61-2-4, won three national titles, and three provincial titles.

Humber led the way with a school-record nine players selected to the OCAA All-Star team. In addition to Boasiako, All-Canadian Jaineil Hoilett was named an all-star for the third straight year.  The Brampton native finished sixth in the league with eight goals and now sits sixth all-time on Humber's career scoring list with 21.

Daniele Clemente was named an OCAA All-Star for the second straight year, continuing his aggressive style of play, making it difficult for opponents to cross mid-field.

A career-high nine goals from Luca Baldassarre earned the third-year forward his first all-star nod.

First-year keeper Nick Frenati started between the posts in five games for Humber, allowing one goal while recording four clean sheets.

Rounding out the first-time all-stars were Marc Medeiros, Julian Mullin, Joshua Portillo, and Gianlucas Scorzafave.  Medeiros played a pivotal role on staunch defence, pairing with Boasiako to become the top defensive duo in the province.

Midfielders Mullin, Portillo, and Scorzafave led Humber on both sides of the pitch, breaking up opposing attacks while creating goal scoring opportunities for their teammates.

Since 1992, the Hawks lead the OCAA with 61 all-star honourees.

Humber begins its OCAA title defence Thursday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. against the Fleming Knights (3-6-1, 5th East). The live stream can be found here.
