
Rugby earns spot in OCAA gold medal match

BRAMPTON - Humber rugby defeated the Georgian Grizzlies, 34-15, in their semifinal match on Saturday. Ivontaé Cambronne scored two tries, as did Seth Kirkham, while Prince Ndukwe added two converts. Humber will now return to the gold medal match for the second straight year, hosting Conestoga on November 9.
Match Recap
It was another hot start for the best team in the OCAA in this semi-final matchup. Ngatukumbe Kaukumangera would open the scoring for Humber just a 1:20 into the match with a great run down the right side of the pitch. Humber would miss the conversion but take a 5-0 lead.
The Hawks would extend their lead in the 17th minute, with this try being a slow, grinding team effort right at the try line. It would be Ivontaé Cambronne scoring this one. Prince Ndukwe would nail the convert, a kick from a sharp angle, and the Hawks would take a 12-0 lead.
Humber would score once more before the end of the half and would lead 17-5 after 40 minutes of play with Georgian scoring a last-second try.
Back from the break Georgian used some of the momentum they created at the end of the half. The Grizzlies would score again to cut Humbers lead to 17-10, and were playing a solid defensive game.
Humber continued to push through the meat of the half. They were clearly the better team and the pitch was tilted in favour of them but the Hawks just couldn't get anything past the last line of defence.
After a loose ball would come out of a scrum in the 58th minute, Seth Kirkham would scoop it up and score to but Humber up 22-10
Kirkam would score again just minutes later, muscling his way past the try line.
Now leading 27-10, Humber would open the game up and truly start to dominate. It was clear that not only was Humber faster and stronger, but more solid in their tactics and with Georgian on their heels the Hawks took advantage.
Ivontaé Cambronne would score once again, showing off some serious skills with a last-second hip fake that fooled the defender.
Prince Ndukwe would nail the conversion, giving Humber a 34-10 point lead.
Georgian would score once more, making it 34-15 but Humber would leave the pitch victorious, looking towards the gold-medal game.
