HAWKS END REGULAR SEASON WITH MAKE-UP GAME TONIGHT
BRAMPTON, ON: The Humber Hawks women's softball team (14-8), already slotted as the third seed for the upcoming OCAA Championships, will play another championship tournament bound team in the Mohawk Mountaineers (10-12) on Tuesday night. The two teams were rained out on Sunday, thus forcing a make-up affair on the last day of the schedule.
THE MATCH UP
Mohawk "MOUNTAINEERS" @ Humber "HAWKS"
Tuesday, October 17/17
6:00 pm & 8:00 pm
Fairgrounds - Brampton
The games have no effect on the standings, as wins or losses will not change the match-ups that are set for the opening of the championships on Friday at this same Brampton Fairgrounds. Mohawk could fall back into a tie with Conestoga with two losses, but they hold the tie-breaker. It is the same if the Hawks win two, as Durham holds the slim tie-break over Humber.
LAST TIME OUT VS MOHAWK
The two teams split the opening series, with the Mountaineers prevailing in game one by a score of 6-2, and the Hawks responding with a resounding 10-0 win in the nightcap.
SCOUTING MOHAWK
- The Mountaineers have lost two straight after running a win streak to four prior to the Durham games
- They are 4-6 away from home, and 6-4 in Hamilton
- They feature 5 players with batting averages above .380, including Shaniel O'Neill who checks in with a mark of .444
- Veteran Aimee Leduc has been their ace and horse, as she has pitched in 20 games and has a 10-10 record, with an ERA of 4.78
HAWK NOTES
- Humber is 6-4 in its last 10 games
- They are 8-4 on the road and will look to get similar numbers at home with 2 wins, as they currently check in at 6-4 at the Fairgrounds
- Winning game one has been a problem this year, as the Hawks have dropped the opener in 7 of the 11 doubleheaders played thus far
- Sarah Franchetto has been on fire, and has raised her batting average to a team best .396
- Pitcher Myranda Pierson has also been hot, and has seen her ERA drop to a second best in the league mark of 1.74 to go along with her 7 wins
HISTORY WATCH
- Franchetto is just three hits shy of 50 for her 2-year career
