Dobson receiving his award

Jacob Dobson named Humber Male Athlete of the Year

After falling to Mohawk in the OCAA gold medal match for the third straight season, Dobson and Hawks went to New Brunswick to defend their national title and get retribution against the Mountaineers on the biggest stage.

After finishing second in pool play with only one loss – to Mohawk – Humber and Dobson needed to defeat SAIT in the semifinal for a chance to defend their title. After the Trojans got on the board in the first end, Humber put six points on the board over the next three ends and never looked back – setting up the perfect scenario. A showdown with Mohawk for the national title.

At the midway point through the gold medal match, Humber led 4-1 but Mohawk outscored the Hawks 5-2 over the next four to tie the match up heading into the final end. With a chance to win the match, Dobson persevered with a house-clearing hammer stone, earning the gold with a 7-6 victory.

Dobson joins Coach Shurtleff as the only male curlers to garner Humber Male Athlete of the Year honours.
