Men's Volleyball Opens Championship With Sweep of Holland

FREDERICTON - Top-seeded Humber men's volleyball opened the 2020 CCAA Championship in dominant fashion, defeating the Holland Hurricanes in straight sets, 3-0. The final set scores were 25-8, 25-13, and 25-15.

Newly crowned CCAA All-Canadian Jake Gomes got the Hawks started from the service line, nailing down a six-point service run that led to the Hurricanes' first timeout of the match. Huge blocks by Eduardo Silva Ferreria and Maximum Crowder elevated Hawks' momentum as they took the score to double-digit advantages in both the first and second sets. Jaskarn Kalsi and Rrezart Sadiku maintained Humber's offence, catching the Hurricanes on their heels with back-to-back kills. The Hawks held control over the court, as they finalized the first and second sets at 25-8 and 25-13.

Rrezart Sadiku earned the first point of the final set, nailing down a cross-court kill. Humber quickly escalated to a six-point lead, with big blocks by Jake Gomes and Maximum Crowder shutting down the Hurricanes offence. Multiple kills by Jaydon Milne, paired with a four-point service run and an ace by Joshua Fadare, pushed the Hawks to match point. Rrezart Sadiku finished off the national quarter-final with a final kill, securing the set, 25-15.

Jake Gomes was named the 4Imprint player of the match.
