Wilkins Grabs OCAA’s Top Award

PETERBOROUGH – Humber's Wayne Wilkins came away with the league's highest honour for coaches Wednesday evening after being named the 2020 OCAA Coach of the Year at the league's annual banquet.

Coach Wilkins led the Hawks to the program's first 18-0 season, only dropping two sets all year long and winning the division title for the first time since 2014.

Comprised of a squad that has played for the Hawks for a few seasons, Coach Wilkins has moulded his team into the top-ranked program in the country.

The Blind River native has now won three OCAA coach of the year awards – first since 2005 – while receiving the division honour for the fifth time.

Four of Wilkins' student-athletes were named OCAA all-stars, while Jake Gomes was named the Player of the Year and selected as a CCAA All-Canadian.

In his 25th season at the helm, Wilkins owns a 371-124 (.749) record and is now in the running for the 2020 CCAA Coach of the Year award, which will be announced during the national championship awards banquet on Mar. 11.
