Coach Wilkins Adds Ben Hong to Coaching Staff

ETOBICOKE – Chris Wilkins, heading into his 20th season as head coach with the Humber women's volleyball program, has announced the addition of Ben Hong to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2021-22 OCAA season.

"We're excited to have Ben join our coaching staff," said Coach Wilkins. "His experience and knowledge from his years at the CCAA and U SPORTS levels will be a true asset to our program."

Hong's volleyball coaching experience dates back almost two decades. A graduate in Business Administration from Canadore College, he joined the Panthers coaching staff in 2003. Two years later, Hong joined the Nipissing Lakers staff as an assistant coach, a position he held until 2015.

"After taking a hiatus from the game to sit back and observe, Chris Wilkins and I remained in contact over the years," said Hong. "This opportunity came about and I feel I can help his program move forward with some new ideas and strategies.  I'm looking forward to working with Chris and his coaching staff and to continue the Humber winning tradition."

The Lakers were members of the OCAA before they joined the OUA in 2014 and developed an incredible rivalry with Humber. These two programs met in the provincial gold medal match seven times between 2006 and 2013, with the Hawks winning six of those meetings.

"I would like to thank the Nipissing University and North Bay Youth Volleyball Lakers for allowing me to be part of their program," added Hong.  "A special thank you to Marc LaRochelle and Tyler Landry for allowing me into their programs and helping their programs over the years."

Coach Hong's main responsibilities will be video analysis and tactical breakdown. He will also help with the one-on-one development of the Humber players.

"I can't wait to have him join the staff," added Coach Wilkins. "I'm confident he will make me and the rest of my staff better, which is always our ultimate goal as a team."

The return of the OCAA volleyball regular season is tentatively set for January 2022. Information on winter sport structures and schedules will be provided at a later date and found at humberhawks.ca.
