The Storyline
In a rematch of the 2019 provincial championship game, Humber softball (7-3, 2nd OCAA) will host the Durham Lords (6-4, 3rd OCAA) at Connorvale Park on Oct. 6. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Humber's road trip to London on Oct. 3 was postponed due to rain, so the squad will be returning to the diamond after a week off. During the 2021 home opener, the Hawks offence exploded against Conestoga, swatting five home runs and plating 25 runners during the twin bill.
Hayley Pasma was locked in at the dish, finishing 6-for-8 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Scouting Durham
- The Lords have captured an OCAA-best 20 provincial titles since 1982.
- As a team, Durham has the third-best average in the league sitting at .319.
- The Hawks are 8-5 all-time against Durham at home in the regular season.
- Humber has won three straight games against Durham.
- Morgan Salter has been a true ace for the Lords, picking up two wins with a 2.80 earned run average.
Previous Meeting
Humber ace Meagan Muir pitched her best game of the young season, throwing a complete-game shutout to defeat the Lords on the road. She picked up eight strikeouts over seven innings of work, only allowing a single hit.
Petty Theft
Humber's 2.5 stolen base per game average is the best in the conference. The Hawks' aggressiveness on the base paths continues to put pressure on the opposition's defence. Rookie Christina D'Angelo is leading the team in swiped bags with six. Alexa Vassos continues to increase her program record with 21.
Just Win
With her win against Durham, Meagan Muir became just the fifth pitcher in program history to record 10 career victories.
Big Flies
Alexis Ferreira tied the single-season home run record with her third big fly of the season. The Mississauga native has now hit three home runs in back-to-back seasons and sits second all-time with six career home runs.
Triple Crown
Hayley Pasma currently leads the team in hitting with a .455 average and a team-best 12 RBIs. The first baseman is one off the home run mark as she vies for the triple crown.
What's Next?
The Hawks will put the OCAA on hold and head to British Columbia for the 2021 CCSA National Championship, hosted by UBC-Okanagan. The three-day tournament takes place in Kelowna from Oct. 8-10, with a five-game round robin and the top four teams advancing to the medal rounds. Humber will open the tournament against St. Clair at noon EST.
