ETOBICOKE - Humber women's basketball (3-3, 5th West) dominated Conestoga on Wednesday evening, 92-46. Sarah Baptie led the way for the Hawks, finishing with a 22-point 11-rebound double-double, while Kia Watt added 20 points of her own. Maezell Del Mundo and Katherine Khorovets rounded out Humber's double-digit scorers with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Game Recap

Coming off a three-game losing skid, the Hawks looked to turn their momentum around against the 1-6 Condors. Humber got off to a quick start, dominating the offensive zone with dynamic ball movement. The offence struggled to convert on their chances though and would only be up by six, six minutes into the game. Maezell Del Mundo got the Hawks rolling seven minutes into the game with a euro-step lay up that sent her defender reeling.

The Hawks' stingy defence was the story of the first quarter, holding Conestoga to 16 shot attempts and six points. The quarter would end 24-6 with Humber leading the way.

Humber didn't slow down in the second quarter. The Hawks were clearly the better team and played like it, stifling every Condor opportunity and scoring at will. Kia Watt took over for the Hawks, running the court like she owned it. The fourth-year guard had 18 at halftime and 10 in the quarter. With the floodgates wide open, the Hawks made Conestoga look like a high school team. Humber would go into halftime up 53-18, shooting 12-for-25 from the field in the second quarter.

The Condors managed to open the scoring in the third, hitting two free throws in their first possession. The Hawks didn't seem to like it though and picked up the pressure. Watt put Conestoga back on their heels with a great drive to the paint, picking up the hoop and the harm. The game turned sloppy with Humber up 64-24 and both teams' offence would fail to convert for two full minutes. Humber regained its composure after the collapse and would go into the fourth quarter with a commanding 73-36 lead.

Conestoga finally figured out their game in the opening minutes of the fourth, keeping pace with the Hawks' offence four minutes in. However, Humber was simply the better team as they ran their system and kept increasing their lead over the Condors. With the Hawks securely in the driver's seat, they would simply play out the game until the final buzzer. The game would end with the Hawks winning 92-46.

The player of the game was Sarah Baptie. The third-year guard scored a career-high 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor.
