ETOBICOKE - Fresh off a commanding win against Niagara in their season opener, women's basketball (2-0) kept their momentum, beating Sheridan (0-4) 88-56. Kia Watt led the way for the Hawks, scoring 20 points and adding seven assists and seven rebounds.

Game Recap

The Hawks came out hot in this one. After going 0-2 from three to start the game, Humber would sink their next four field goals, forcing Sheridan to call their first timeout just four minutes into the first quarter. The break wouldn't do anything to slow the Hawks down as they continued to pad their lead. The Hawks' offence came from the defensive end of the court, forcing turnovers and then converting on the fast break. Sheridan would rally, forcing Humber to take contested shots from beyond the arc. The quarter would end 21-20, with Sheridan leading the way after ten minutes. Maezell Del Mundo led the way for the Hawks in the first, scoring five points in five minutes off the bench.

Humber came out solid and physical for the second quarter. Being the smaller team, the Hawks focused on pressing the court and keeping the Bruins to the outside. Humber's strategy paid off as the led 30-25 midway through the quarter. Sheridan had no answer for Humber's pressure, and the Hawks started dominating in the back half of the second. The first half would end with Humber leading 42-32. Del Mundo stayed hot, scoring 11 off the bench; she would have 14 on the evening.

The Hawks kept their momentum through half-time picking up right where they left off. Sheridan Kept pace with Humber offensively but couldn't close the ten-point gap. With 5:27 remaining in the third quarter, Sydney Crawford stole a pass and found a streaking Watt for an easy layup. The bucket was Watt's 650th career point for Humber, moving her into eighth place.

The Hawks came out blazing in the fourth, going on a 7-0 run in the first minute of the game. The run stunned Sheridan, and Humber didn't look back, converting almost all their chances while staying stingy on defence. The Hawks held Sheridan to just nine points in the final frame. The Hawks would win the game 88-56.

Nicole Chateau was the Hawks Player of the Game, finishing with 11 points and five rebounds.
