HAWKS TURN IN BEST SHOWING OF THE YEAR IN HOME WIN

Story by: Bobby Mihalik

ETOBICOKE, ON: With a strong and consistent performance that controlled the pace throughout the game, the Humber Hawk's men's volleyball team came out victorious in a well-fought match against the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday night, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-16).

The first set began with a steadily even pace for both teams until a seven-point rally fuelled by Rady Kim's serving put the Hawks up 16-8. Conestoga would soon retaliate with a five-point rally to put the game within two, but the Hawks refused to relinquish their lead. Countering Conestoga's efforts with another point surge, led by Joshua Pascual, the Hawks handily took the first set 25-18.

Conestoga took the lead early in the second set, with neither team able to string together any significant point streaks. A four-point stretch for the Hawks with Kamyn Wilkins at the helm would give them the lead halfway through, putting them up 13-12. After going up by five points late in the set, the Hawks held their ground and survived a late Condors rally to win 25-23 in the second set.

The Hawk's third set proved to be their most dominant, taking the lead at the start and never falling behind. Firmly holding onto their lead at the 5, 10, 15, and 20 point marks, the Hawk's sealed their victory with a four-point rally behind Alex Bowden's serving to take the set 25-16, winning the game.

Kamyn Wilkins, who led the Hawks with 10 points (7 kills, 2 serving aces, 1 block) was named the Hawks Nation Player of the Game.

Dylan Devecseri also had 10 points for the Hawks (9 kills, 1 serving ace), and Clayton Blanchette had 8 points (7 kills, 1 block).

With the victory, the Hawks improve to a 3-2 record, putting them at a .600 win percentage. Conestoga's record falls to 2-4 with their loss.

The Hawk's next matchup is on the road against the Sheridan Bruins this Saturday at 3:00pm.
