WELLAND, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team (9-2, 2nd West), who just vaulted up to seventh in the CCAA National rankings this past week, faced a five-setter for the fourth time this year and second in as many games. When the dust settled in Welland on Thursday night, they knocked off the Niagara Knights (6-5, 4th West) 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-13)
The first set was a dominating one by the visiting Hawks. Humber did not allow the hometown Knights a chance to open the door in this one, leading from front to back in a 25-14 win.
The hometown team won the second set to tie the match, and then moved up 2-1 with a fully dominating third set win. With momentum totally on their side, it looked like Niagara would ride the wave of the third set win to a match victory.
But, cue the comeback. Humber elevated their game, and used much better passing to ignite their offence. The fourth set was all Humber, winning the set and setting up the heroics in the fifth.
After bolting out to a 3-0 lead to start the deciding set, the Hawks faltered and allowed the Knights to grab a 4-3 lead. From that point on, Humber took over, and even when the Knights tied it late, the Hawks seemed confident and in control. In a match where service errors seemed to be at a minimum, it was a service error that turned out to be the deciding point in the match.

Humber will now return to the floor by way of another road game on Sunday, as they head to Kitchener to play the Conestoga Condors. The first serve is set for 3:00 pm, at the newly refurbished Conestoga College Athletic Centre.
