Bio

Easily the most decorated coach in the history of Humber College Athletics, Ray Chateau served 12 seasons as head golf coach and provided the blueprint for building one of the nation’s top collegiate programs.

Chateau’s tenure was marked by consistency, highlighted by ten CCAA national championships and 50 overall tournament victories.  Against the top collegiate golfers in Canada, his team captured three RCGA University/College titles and placed four additional times on the podium.

Several individuals have flourished under Chateau’s watchful eye, as six of his players also captured individual CCAA championships.  He produced 22 CCAA All-Canadian selections during his 12-year tenure, including a record four selections in 2010.

His ability to develop talent and his team’s ability to perform did not go unnoticed.  On six occasions, Chateau represented Canada as the head coach at the FISU World University Games.  His Team Canada squads finished fourth in 2006 and fifth in 2010.

In 2012, Chateau was the recipient of the CCAA Coaching Excellence Award, becoming the first non-basketball or volleyball coach to receive the honour. Chateau was later inducted into the OCAA Hall of Fame in 2017.

After Chateau made the leap from golf coach to athletic director, his accomplishments took a back seat as he began to build Humber into the top athletics program in the nation. This was finally rectified in 2022 when his banner was finally put into the rafters to hang with the all-time legends of Humber.

Chateau was a 2023 CCAA Hall of Fame class inductee, cementing his status as an all-time legend at Humber.
