NYHOF LEADS HAWKS TO 7TH CONSECUTIVE OCAA TITLE

OSHAWA: The Humber Hawks tied the OCAA All-Time record with their 7th consecutive OCAA Championship, a 3-1 win over a terrific Fanshawe College team on Saturday at the Durham College Athletic Centre.

Kelly Nyhof, who was recently honoured with her third straight OCAA Player of the Year and All Canadian nod, won the championship for the fifth year in a row – every year she has participated in the OCAA. Her OCAA regular season and play-off record is 109 wins and just 2 losses.

For the third consecutive season, Nyhoff was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was also the Hawk Player of the Game for the second night in a row, this time earning the honor by earning an incredible 32 points on an amazing 27 kills, 3 service aces and 2 blocks.

Thalia Hanniman was second best on the scoreboard for Humber, as she combined 10 kills with 2 service aces and a block for a total of 13 points. For her efforts she was chosen as a tournament All-Star.

Carley Uden joined Nyhof and Hanniman on the tournament All-Star team. On several occasions she ran off multiple runs when serving, including a run of 11 points in the 3rd set.

The Falcons made a big statement in the first set, knocking off the Hawks 25-22 and never allowing Humber to get close. The second set saw the Hawks get back into the match in a big way by dominating all the way, and winning 25-16. The third set, as mentioned above, was all Carley Uden as she helped Humber out to a healthy lead and then drove them home in the 25-10 win. The fourth and final set was tight, but the Hawks never relinquished the lead, although Fanshawe fought valiantly all the way. It was Kelly Nyhof who sealed the match and the championship with her 27th kill of the match.

Humber will now advance to the 2014 CCAA National Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by Seneca College in 2 week's time.
