SUFFOCATING DEFENSE, DOMINANT DICKSON PACE HAWKS IN 78-58 WIN OVER FANSHAWE

The Men's Basketball Team hosted the Fanshawe Falcons on Friday night with an opportunity to take over sole possession of first place in the Western Division.

The Hawks put their size advantage to good use in the first, as the big man combination of Vule Grujic and Tyrone Dickson controlled the paint early on. A smooth up and under from Grujic was followed by a beautiful hesitation move from swingman Junior Davis, giving the blue and gold a 6-0 lead. Starting point guard Gibson Eduful's high arcing floater extended the advantage; Dickson then grabbed Humber's third offensive board of the frame and finished with the foul to extend the run. With four minutes remaining, Fanshawe remained scoreless, unable to finish in the paint among the Hawks rim protectors and ice cold from outside. A free throw would finally open the scoring for the Falcons, but it could hardly stem Humber's momentum as they continued to control play on both ends. With seconds left in the quarter, Dickson finished off a dominant ten minutes with a great finish and foul. The score read 21-6 at the end of the one side quarter.

The onslaught continued to start the second, as Junior Davis glided in from the baseline for a pretty two. Ty Dickson continued the impressive defense with a big block, and Curwin Elvis splashed a three in transition soon thereafter. Combo guard RJ Ramirez utilized his quickness to get an easy bucket on the break, and the blue and gold continued to own the painted area, as Elvis came away with a huge swat of his own. With time ticking down in the quarter, Brayden Gohn put an exclamation mark on the first twenty with a massive dunk as time expired to give the Hawks an eighteen point advantage at the half, 32-14.

Fanshawe would show a little fight to start the third, as Ryan Pflanzer and Kevin Butera hit back-to-back treys. Vule Grujic quickly stemmed the momentum though, with consecutive finishes down low extending the Hawks advantage. Kenny Ejim, whose on-ball defense had been bothering the Falcons all night, threw down an emphatic jam that had the Humber faithful in a frenzy and the lead upped to twenty-one. Bewley followed it up with a quick five points, including a long distance bomb that had Fanshawe reeling. Ty Dickson threw a gorgeous pass from the elbow for an easy Bewley lay in, and another three made it ten in a row for Chad and had the Falcons looking deflated. After three, the lead had ballooned to twenty-one.

With the game wrapped up heading into the final quarter, the Hawks provided a raucous crowd with a few more hi-light moments before the night was over. Davis got things started with a pretty finish where he glided in the air before laying it in, and he followed it up with a deep three. Kenny Ejim dropped in another two on a great back door cut, and the final exclamation mark came courtesy of a big-time Ancil Martin throwdown. At the final buzzer, the Hawks had taken over first place in the West with a huge 78-58 win.

Ty Dickson was named Player of the Game for his incredible effort on both ends of the court, finishing with nine points, seventeen rebounds and five blocks. Next up for the Hawks is a Thursday night match-up with the Niagara Knights, where the Hawks will be looking to stay undefeated in the Athletic Centre.
