THIRD QUARTER SURGE PROPELS HUMBER TO 85-70 WIN OVER SAINTS

In search of their fifth straight win and a share of first in the OCAA's Western Division, the Men's Basketball Team played host to the St. Clair Saints on Saturday night.

The Hawks got to work inside early, as Tyrone Dickson had a pair of offensive rebounds on the Hawks first two possessions. It was clear from the get go that Humber was looking to establish themselves in the paint, while the Saints where working their offense largely from the perimeter. Trevelle Blythe's three gave St. Clair an early 7-4 lead, and some solid work down low extended the advantage to five. The transition game helped Humber close the quarter strong, as tick-tack-toe passing from RJ Ramirez, Curwin Elvis and Junior Davis led to a trip to the line and two points. At the end of one, Humber held a 14-13 lead.

Curwin Elvis nailed a three to start the second, and some nice high low play from Vule Grujic and Dickson extended the advantage to 21-15. St. Clair refused to wilt, as a couple of baskets from Maxwell Reiner had the Saints back within two. Kenny Ejim asserted himself midway through the quarter, first with a pretty pass to Dickson for an easy deuce and then with a up-and-under move down low to push the advantage to five. Gibson Eduful hit a transition three, and it appeared as though Humber may have been ready to pull away. For the second time, St. Clair buckled down and refused to go away, hitting a triple and pair of midrange jumpers to tighten the gap. A Dickson finish at the bucket was followed in short succession by a pull-up jumper from Eduful to end the second strong, and at half the Hawks held a slim 34-32 lead.

Kenny Ejim continued to score at will in the third, opening the quarter with a quick move to the basket for an easy two. Alex Temesy connected on a deep three for the visitors, and with six minutes to go the game was knotted up at 39. Humber again made a decided effort to attack in the post, with Grujic and Dickson both proving effective in the painted area. The duo scored consecutive baskets, and after a nice defensive possession Chad Bewley hit a transition three to push the lead to seven. With just over a minute to go in the third, Curwin Elvis caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting consecutive contested looks from deep. A beautiful pass from Ramirez to Dickson capped a dominant final sixty seconds, and the lead had ballooned to fifteen headed to the final quarter.

The Hawks would keep St. Clair at arms length throughout the fourth quarter, as the Saints were unable to get within single digits again. Junior Davis and Ancil Martin capped the night with a pair of jumpers, and Chad Bewley's second triple of the evening put it away. The final score read 85-70, and with the win Humber improves to 13-1 on the season. Ty Dickson was named Player of the game, with a final stat line of eighteen points and sixteen rebounds.

Next up for the Hawks is a Sunday matinee against Lambton, tip-off is set for 3pm.
