MEN’S BASKETBALL HEADED TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

MEN’S BASKETBALL HEADED TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Men's Basketball Team is headed to Hamilton for the CCAA National Championship, going into the Tournament as the fourth seed.

The Hawks are coming off a Silver Medal at Provincials, where they defeated Lambton and Fanshawe before falling to Mohawk in the Final. Leading the way for Humber were Tournament All-Stars Junior Davis and Tyrone Dickson; Davis nailed five three pointers in the Gold Medal Game and finished the Championship with perhaps his strongest two games of the season.

The catalyst for the Hawks 17-1 regular season record was a defensive unit that was definitively Ontario's best. The blue and gold ranked at or near the top of nearly every major defensive statistical category:

Points Allowed per Game – 68.1 (1st in OCAA)
Rebounding Margin – plus-17.4 (1st in OCAA)
FG% Allowed – 34.6 (1st in OCAA)
Blocks per Game – 5.8 (1st in OCAA)
3PT% Allowed – 28.0 (6th in OCAA)
Tyrone Dickson – Defensive Player of the Year

Offensively, balanced scoring has paced Ontario's fourth highest scoring team. Six players averaged at least 8.5 points per game, while five have shot better than fifty percent from the field. Humber's front-court pairing of Vule Grujic and Tyrone Dickson have combined to average twenty-four points and 19 rebounds, forming one of the country's most imposing duos up front.  The Hawks work on the offensive end was nearly as impressive:

Assists per Game – 21.9 (1st in OCAA)
Field Goal Percentage – 47.8% (2nd in OCAA)
Offensive Rebounds Per Game – 19.9 (3rd in OCAA)
Points per Game – 85.6 (4th in OCAA)

Humber kicks their Tournament off on Thursday at 3pm against the fifth-seeded PACWEST runner up Langara Falcons, who are led by All-Canadian Jitinder Lohcham.
