About

Troy Black is entering his third season as head coach of the Humber baseball program in 2023.

Black was introduced as head coach by Athletic Director Ray Chateau on January 16, 2020, following two seasons as the assistant coach with his primary focus on the infielders, base running and hitting. During that time, the Hawks captured two OCAA titles and the 2019 NCBC title, accumulating an overall record of 42-8 (.840). In 38 regular-season games, Humber baseball combined for a team average of .337 and 77 stolen bases.

After his first season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Coach Black led the Hawks to a 2022 OCAA silver medal - the program's sixth consecutive podium finish. Black's debut was the year of the long ball, as his squad set an OCAA record with 17 home runs in 14 games, shattering the conference record of 12. His squad also set new program records with a .350 team batting average, 159 runs scored, and 130 RBI.  In a win against Centennial, Humber set new OCAA single-game records, scoring 31 runs and swatting six long balls. Dennis Dei Baning led the league in almost every offensive category and was named the OCAA Player of the Year.

In his second season, Black and the Hawks capture the program's third division title, finishing the season with a .944 win percentage - the highest in program history. Humber's incredible run saw Black earn OCAA Coach of the Year honours, as the Hawks would go on to finish on the provincial podium for the seventh straight season, capturing the silver medal.

Prior to Humber, Troy Black was a four-year infielder at the University of Maine (DI – American East Conference), concluding his career with a .344 batting average, while earning two All-American East second-team selections. In 2014, he inked a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles, joining their rookie ball affiliate in the Gulf Coast League.
