Some think it may have been easy to miss Derek’s exploits on the court, given the talent around him, but nothing could be further from the truth. He was a court general who distributed the ball to the right person at the exact spot to ensure a kill to end a rally. But he did so much more. His serve was feared and often created multiple runs, and his play at the net, both blocking and hitting at times put the opposition on edge.
