DOMINGO AND TAYLOR RECEIVE ALL-ONTARIO RECOGNITION

ETOBICOKE, Ont – Three-time defending OCAA champion Humber women's basketball garnered numerous league accolades Thursday evening when the OCAA announced its yearly awards as determined by a polling of the conference's coaches.

Top-ranked Humber won the division crown for the fifth consecutive year – finishing the season with a perfect 20-0 record – after extending its OCAA win streak to 78 straight games.

Ceejay Nofuente (full story here) was the headliner at the awards banquet once again and paired with teammate Aleena Domingo, the duo was named OCAA first team all-stars. Nofuente and Domingo are the first Humber teammates to be named first team all-stars since Erin Chamberlain and Sarah Moxley accomplished the feat in 2006.

Domingo left her best season for last, cementing her legacy as one of Humber's all-time greats. The Toronto native scored a career-high 328 points, becoming just the fourth player in program history to join the 300-point club. Domingo finished the year as one of six OCAA players to complete the season averaging a double-double, averaging 16.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

After five incredible seasons, Domingo has been named an all-star in each, receiving first team honours this year for the first time. After 89 career games, Domingo will finish her career as Humber's all-time leading rebounder, finishing with 675 boards.

Domingo's rebounding and ability to shut down the opponents top scoring threats saw her named the west division defensive player of the year, as well. She becomes the first Humber player to win the award since national champion Mary Asare received the honour in 2016.

Freshman guard Makeba Taylor was named to the OCAA All-Rookie team after playing in 19 games for top-ranked Humber this season. The Toronto native led the team in 3-point efficiency, shooting 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from behind the arc. Taylor joins teammates Aleena Domingo and Felicia Velasquez as active Hawks to be named to the all-rookie team.

Humber has now received 13 OCAA All-Star selections in the Ajay Sharma era.

The end of the banquet marks the beginning of the 2018 OCAA Championship presented by belairdirect, hosted by Humber College.  The quarter-final matchup for No. 1 Humber on Mar. 2 will be against St. Clair (12-8, 5th West) and tipoff is set for 3 p.m.  All games will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network and be sure to follow the @HumberHawks on Twitter for everything Humber women's basketball.
