HUMBER'S DOMINANT RUN ENDS IN BRONZE

By: E. Garro

ANCASTER, Ont -- The Humber Hawks men's soccer team was trying to win the triple for the third time in school history but fell just short and had to settle for bronze.

One year ago the Hawks took gold in a penalty shootout against the St. Clair Saints but on Saturday it fell to the Saints in the semi-finals by a score of 1-0. Alex Jakma made some big saves for the Hawks and kept the team in it; however Humber's high-octane offence was unable to find the back of the net.

Humber instead would go on to play the Fanshawe Falcons in the bronze medal game. Thanks to goals from Andi Motina and Luca Baldassare the Hawks would win 2-1 and take home the bronze medal.

With six goals in six matches, All-Canadian Jaineil Hoilett was named a tournament all-star.

It was the last time Hawks captain Gerardo Magno would play for Humber. After a successful five-year career with Humber, the midfielder finishes as one of the most decorated athletes in school history with four provincial gold medals along with four national gold medals.

Humber will now look ahead to next season where it will look to defend its provincial and national titles. The Hawks have won provincial and national gold four out of the last five seasons.
