HAWKS SWEEP THEIR WAY TO UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH TITLE

GUELPH, ON: In the final tune-up before the regional championships, the Humber Hawks men's soccer team swept the competition for another tournament win this winter.

The Hawks participated in the tournament that was being held by the University of Guelph on Saturday, joining Centennial as the only other college to attend. The remainder of the tournament featured Guelph's varsity team, alumni and recruits along with teams from Brock University.

Humber kicked off the tournament against the Brock University defeating them by a score of 3-2, followed by a 1-0 win against recruits of the University of Guelph.

With the two wins, the team qualified for the semi-finals but that didn't mean taking any opponents lightly. Humber defeated one half of Guelph's varsity team 4-2, before taking on the other half in the semis.

The Hawks would defeat the other half 5-0 thanks to two stunning strikes from Claudio Sereno and another from Lucas Scorzafave, pushing them into the finals.

In the finals, Humber matched up against the Guelph team they defeated 4-2. It was a close game until Bradley Fenton broke the deadlock, and Jaineil Hoilett slid another past the keeper to give Humber some breathing room.

Despite a late surge from Guelph, the Hawks were able to hold them off and win the tournament.

With the win Humber adds a second tournament win this winter in two attempts. The team will now focus on the regional championships, which takes place in March.

Humber has won the indoor provincial championships the past two seasons.
