HAWKS OSORIO SCORES TWICE TO SEAL OPENING GAME WIN!

By: Eugenio Garro

WELLAND, Ontario: The Humber Hawks women's varsity soccer team opened up their 2015 outdoor season Saturday afternoon against Niagara College.

The Hawks look to bounce back from a disappointing year in 2014 which saw the team fail to place in the top 3 for the first time since the 05/06 season.

Last season against Niagara, the Hawks took the close match by a score of 2-1, and on Saturday afternoon they looked to continue their dominance over Niagara.  The team welcomes a handful of new talent from across the GTA with the hopes of returning to Nationals for the first time since 2012.

At halftime it was 0-0 as both teams struggled to get anything going with the awful weather conditions. It was back and forth but the wind killed every ball played through the air and the wet surface made it hard to control any ball played along the ground.

The second half featured more action as both teams came out to play but the Hawks veteran leadership took over helping lead the way to a 2-1 victory.

It was Humber veteran forward #21 Ashley Osorio who was the team's hero in this one scoring both goals helping the Hawks get off to a winning start on the road.

Hawks veteran goalkeeper Tania Serafino did a great job with timely saves, while communicating at the back keeping her team organized throughout the game.

The Hawks will need more strong play from their veterans moving forward in order to make a push for gold this season.

The Hawks next game is next Sunday when they travel to take on the Seneca Sting. Kickoff is at 3:00 PM E.T.
