WOMEN'S SOCCER HEADING TO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

ANACASTER, Ont – The Humber women's indoor soccer program has advanced to the OCAA championship semi-finals tomorrow after finishing round robin play unbeaten with a 2-0-2 record.

Looking to win its eighth championship in program history, the Hawks opened play with a 5-0 win over the host Redeemer Royals. Freshman Shaniece Bennett recorded a first half hat trick, while Zoe Longsworth scored two insurance goals in the second half.

After playing to a 0-0 tie with Sheridan, the Hawks opened day two action with another 5-0 win, this time over Sault College.  The scoring was evenly distributed, as Giulia Zanardi, Megan Voutour, Shaniece Bennett, Rachel Spratt, and Rebecca Spratt all recorded a goal.

Humber's final round robin match came against unbeaten St. Clair and both teams played to a 0-0 draw.  With three wins, St. Clair won its pool, while Humber grabbed second and will the winner of pool A, the Fanshawe Falcons.

Humber's defence played an integral role in its first round success and was led by captains Alexandra Giannone and Rachel Spratt.

Hawks' rookie goalkeeper Vanessa Fiore has been more than stellar for her team thus far, tallying four clean sheets in four games.

Humber will now get ready for its semi-final matchup on Saturday, March 25 against the Fanshawe Falcons. Game time is set for 9:30am.
