Men's Basketball Captures OCAA Silver Medal

SARNIA — No. 10 Humber men's basketball fell to No. 9 George Brown Huskies in the OCAA final Sunday afternoon at Lambton College, 78-65.

Jaylan Morgan led the way for the Hawks scoring 18 points and grabbing two boards. Jordan Francis was the only other Hawk to finish in double figures, scoring 10 points while grabbing seven boards.

Kingslee D'Silva led the way for the Huskies recording a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Chris Fields and Naseem Barry both finished with 13 points while Caldre Campbell recorded 12 points.

Facing the top defence in the province, the Hawks found themselves in tough against the Huskies. Humber came out hot in the opening minutes, jumping out to a 9-2 lead early. Humber would only score five more points the rest of the way, shooting just 35.3 percent in the quarter as they trailed by four after ten minutes of play.

Humber struggled with the Huskies press in the first half, turning the ball over eight times leading to easy baskets for George Brown. The Hawks were able to get some momentum to end the half, as their shots started to fall nearly taking the lead at the buzzer. Both Jaylan Morgan and Jordan Francis helped carry the Hawks offence in the first half as they finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Both sides traded baskets to begin the third, as the game opened up. The Hawks shot eight-of-16 (50 percent) in the third frame, but as was the case all game, struggled from deep going one-of-seven from three-point range. With Morgan on the bench with three fouls, the Humber offence struggled, allowing the Huskies to take an eight-point lead. Khalid Ismail kept the game close delivering a three at the buzzer to make it a five-point deficit with ten minutes.

It was a nightmare fourth quarter for Humber as they went ice cold from the field. The Hawks shot just 15.8 percent in the frame and turned the ball over five times in the final quarter. For their part George Brown made the Hawks pay going 6-of-15 in the fourth while knocking down three shots from behind the arc. The sloppy quarter would prove to be the Hawks undoing as they fell to the Huskies, 78-65.

Jaylan Morgan and Keith Laryea were named to the all-tournament team.
