ALL-CANADIAN HAYLEY MCCALLUM RECORDS SOLID 80 (+8) AND TRAILS LEADER BY 5

ALL-CANADIAN HAYLEY MCCALLUM RECORDS SOLID 80 (+8) AND TRAILS LEADER BY 5

MEDICINE HAT, AL: Freshman Hayley McCallum, who accepted her CCAA All-Canadian award last night at the 2018 CCAA National Golf Championship banquet, showed little fear as she opened her first national event on Tuesday.

With windy conditions being in play all day, she finished the day with a solid score of 80, just eight strokes above par and sits a slim five strokes back of the leaders.

She started on the back nine, and found a little bit of trouble after parring the first two holes. The next three holes took their toll, and had her drop to plus five after five. Three more pars were followed by a double bogey to end her first nine.

She then settled down, and was nothing short of spectacular on the next nine. After parring the first seven holes on her second nine, she scored a birdie on the eighth green. A blip by the way of a double bogie on the ninth finished her day.

All being said, she had a birdie and twelve pars on the day.

The door is open to move up the leaderboard, and Hayley will be looking to build on day one over the next three rounds.

As a team, the Hawks did not fare well, as they sit at the bottom of the team standings with a mark of plus 40.
