HAWKS DOMINANT IN ROAD WIN OVER REDEEMER, MOVE TO 2-0

UPDATE: The Women's Basketball Team moved to 2-0 on the season on Tuesday night thanks to a dominant 78-49 road win over the Redeemer Royals. Humber led throughout the night, building an 18-point lead at half that they would not relinquish. Ceejay Nofuente and Aleena Domingo led the way, pouring in fourteen points apiece on fifty percent shooting.

Next up for the Hawks is a Saturday matchup with the Cambrian Golden Shield in the Humber Athletic Centre, opening tip is set for 6pm.

COMING OFF IMPRESSIVE WIN IN HOME OPENER, HAWKS HEADED TO REDEEMER

The Humber Hawks Women's Basketball Team will be looking to build on an impressive home opening win this Tuesday when they travel to Redeemer to take on the Royals.

Leading the way in the opener was the trio of Ruth Holland, Atissa Cronk and Ceejay Nofunete. The three combined to score 43 points on fifty percent shooting, and beautiful ball movement led to open looks all night. Especially encouraging was the play of Nofuente, who is working herself back into shape after missing much of last season; she took control of the game down the stretch. The blue and gold's dominance on the boards also played a big part in the victory, as the team managed to outrebound Mohawk by a 51-28 margin.

The win was a great sign for a program that clearly has high hopes and a deep, talented roster. The Hawks struggled against the Mountaineers last season, and Mohawk is often among Ontario's strongest rosters. For a team coming off a 16-2 season, the potential is there for Humber to be even better; they return many of last season's key pieces, as well as the addition of several impact recruits. The Western Division's stingiest defense in 2013/14 doesn't appear to have skipped a beat, as they held the Mountaineers under 40% from the field and under 20% from beyond the arc.

Humber beat Redeemer in their two meetings last year by a combined 37 points, and will be looking to continue that trend. Tip-off is set for 6pm, stay tuned to Twitter for updates.
