WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM CAPTURE BRONZE AT DAWSON TOURNAMENT
The Women's Basketball Team were in Montreal this weekend for the Dawson Tournament, where they captured a Bronze Medal thanks to Sunday's 55-49 win over Ste. Foy, their second win over the Quebec school on the week.
The Hawks went 3-2 overall, winning consecutive games on Friday to open the tournament. Starting point guard Ceejay Nofuente, who leads the team in both scoring (13.0) and assists (5.4) while shooting 49.2 percent from the field, was named a Tournament All-Star.

FIRST HALF REVIEW
As the season reaches its midpoint, the Women's Basketball Team hit the break tied atop the Western Division standings at 8-1. The Hawks head into the holiday's with momentum, having won their last four games, including victories over third place Fanshawe and arch-rival Sheridan. With a deep roster headlined by a couple of Ontario's best players, this team appears more than capable of a deep second half run.
Of the provinces nineteen teams, Humber is among the top in nearly every major statistical category. Offensively, the blue and gold are first in assists per game, fourth in points, third in field goal percentage and fourth in blocks. Humber's success in the half-court starts with point guard Ceejay Nofuente, the reigning OCAA Player of the Week. Nofuente's ability to break the defense down and find open teammates has led to countless easy looks at the rim, and her 5.4 assists per game is among Ontario's best marks. She combines that court vision with range stretching beyond the three point line, where she is hitting 46.3% of her attempts and has made the opposition pay on countless occasions for packing the paint. On the season, Nofuente leads the team in both scoring at 13 points per game and steals with 2.3, and is no doubt the squad's floor general on both ends of the court.
On the wing, the trio of Aleena Domingo, Mary Asare and Natalie Hagopian have all been key two-way players. The three have combined to average over twenty-five points a night, and their length and athleticism have contributed in a big way on the defensive end. Each are averaging about twenty-three minutes a night, keeping them fresh and playing a tenacious brand of basketball the entire time they are on the court. Domingo has been Humber's best shooter at 50% from the floor and 90% from the line, while Asare and Hagopian have been jack-of-all trade types who have provided whatever the team has needed on a given night.
Llyandra Kerr has been a terror down low for the Hawks, controlling the paint on both ends of the court. Her work on the boards has been a huge boon, averaging nearly eleven a game while providing Humber with elite rim protection. She has been perhaps the biggest reason that opponents are shooting a paltry thirty-two percent from the floor, and why the Hawks have held an average advantage of more than fifteen rebounds a game. Kerr been a walking double-double, averaging a hair under twelve points a game on 49 percent shooting, while proving to also have a feathery touch from the line where she has shot 85%.
The Hawks will open up the seasons second half on Friday, January 9th when they play host to the Fanshawe Falcons. Tip is set for 6pm, and the blue and gold will have a big opportunity to further separate themselves from a Western Division contender.
